TUSCANY, ITALY
When you spot ‘Classico’ on your Chianti label, this refers to the original historic growing area which tends to have the best vineyards. The regional mascot, a distinctive black rooster, is displayed on the neck of the bottle. Expect wines loaded up with red cherries and sun-dried tomatoes, earthy notes and herbs, tobacco from aging, and a bit of balsamico.
Italian Chianti is versatile with food but will really shine paired with pizza, tomato-based dishes or grilled meats infused with fresh herbs, like rosemary.
